What does an Operations Engineer do at NextGen?
Join our team as an Operations Engineer and take ownership of the stability and performance of our production environments. You will ensure NextGen’s systems run smoothly and meet strict availability requirements by detecting issues, responding rapidly, and driving the resolution of service-impacting incidents. This role is ideal for a technical specialist who thrives on solving unplanned technical challenges, performing deep root-cause analysis, and continuously recommending improvements to platform reliability and monitoring.
Key Responsibilities
Investigate and resolve unplanned technical issues within SLA as the Level 3 escalation point to ensure timely solutions and minimal service impact.
Monitor system health to ensure performance stays within requirements; proactively identify and recommend opportunities to improve platform availability.Manage error rates down by identifying true root causes and proposing technical changes or process improvements.
Identify opportunities to enhance system monitoring, alerting, reliability, and the comprehensive Knowledge Base/playbook library.
Participate in the execution of disaster recovery protocols and other critical infrastructure tests to ensure system resilience.
Essential Skills & Experience
Solid experience with PowerShell, Bash, or Python (specifically for troubleshooting and adapting existing scripts).
Hands-on experience managing and maintaining both Microsoft Windows and Linux server environments.
Strong knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, VLAN, routing) and proven experience in troubleshooting complex networking issues.
A proactive approach to detecting issues and driving the resolution of unplanned technical incidents.
